And the winner is…

At the the International Ceramic Days, world-class ceramic art is presented to a large audience.eramic Days, top-class ceramic art is presented to a large audience. The best of the best are honoured annually with prizes.

No less than three prizes await the ceramics artists: The NEUE KERAMIK Award, the Detlef-Schmidt-Wilkens Award for Ceramics, which is awarded in three categories, and the Audience Award.

Detlef-Schmidt-Wilkens-Award for Ceramics

It is part of the Werkschule’s programme to teach and defend quality criteria. This is one reason why we make quality standards transparent at the Oldenburger Ceramic Fairs and honour special works: with the Ceramics Award for the best three works of the Theme Show.

A nationwide jury of experts will select the winners. They will receive the Detlef-Schmidt-Wilkens Award for Ceramics, which will be awarded in three categories: Surface, function and innovation. The awards will be selected and presented in the special exhibition at the Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte.

NEUE KERAMIK Award

The fact that the International Ceramics Fairs Oldenburg are appreciated by the nationwide trade scene is proven by the NEUE KERAMIK Award, for which a total of 2,000 euros has been donated since 2009 by the publisher of the trade magazine “NEUE KERAMIK/New Ceramics”. The award honours outstanding ceramics achievements in the fields of vessels, sculpture and ceramics painting. Eligible for the competition for the Prize of the NEW CERAMICS are ceramicists, who are represented with a booth on the ceramic days.

In addition to the prize money of 1,000 euros, they receive an additional 1,000 euros as a scholarship for a study visit to one of the international study places for ceramics, e.g. in Denmark, Italy, China or the USA.
The award also includes a curated solo exhibition, which will be shown for six weeks alongside the ceramic days of the following year. The cooperation partner for this exhibition is the Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte – an obvious proof that contemporary ceramics have long claimed their place as an artistic discipline.

The Audience Award

Which of the many works from the thematic show appeals most to the visitors? At the Audience Award, everyone is asked to look closely at the works, to judge and evaluate them. It is always exciting to see which ceramics art piece the visitors choose as their favourite. 500 Euro prize money for the highest voted ceramics.
