Two days short – but impressive: the special exhibition at the Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte Oldenburg on the International Ceramics Fairs. On a subject given by the Werkschule. The participants of the market can submit objects and thus prove their mastery of craftwork and artistic ceramics. Their interpretations and often idiosyncratic interpretations of the theme give the audience an impressive overview of the diversity of contemporary ceramics. The Ceramic Fairs Oldenburg are thus also a “school of seeing”.

The State Museum of Art and Cultural History Oldenburg and the Werkschule e.V. present the winner of the 2019 Ceramic Award in a special exhibition, awarded by the European trade magazine “NEW CERAMICS”.
This year’s exhibition presents the exceptional ceramist Marieke Ringel. The graduate of the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art creates powerful and at the same time delicate animal pictures, which are stored in boxes as wall objects or stand freely in the room as individual pieces. Her sculptures are evidence of artistic ingenuity and technical skill and deliberately keep the traces of her processing of the material clay. Ringel’s works can be seen in their connection between humans and animals, but also as a metaphor for unconscious processes. Last but not least, they embody our longing for nature, freedom and originality.
